I My wife just received a WhatsApp message from a girlfriend of hers asking her to send $600 to Zelle acct [email protected]. Before attempting to send the money my wife called her girlfriend and she wouldn’t take the call. The girlfriend was texting back saying she couldn’t speak because there were people around her and she didn’t want anyone to know about her transactions. Both my wife and I grew suspicious and texted back we wouldn’t send anything unless they spoke. A minute after my wife texted her using the regular message app and that’s when the girlfriend called to warn my wife to not do anything because her (girlfriend’s) WhatsApp account had been hacked and was being used to request money from her contacts. All of this conversation was conducted in Spanish.
