Initial email was for a large catering order. The email was full of broken english and strange requests for food my restaurant has never done. I am a midwest farm to table restaurant and they wanted Egyptian food. I was not opposed to making the food, the order was large so the bill was high. The person that contacted me was very interested in what type of credit card processing i used. After a few follow up questions, the emails started to repeat themselves. Red flag. Then i was sent to this persons secretary, in California. After a few more questions i discovered the person requesting the catering was in Florida. I am located in Indiana. More red flags. I was finally able to get the secretary on the phone and it was like i was talking to a computer. I dawned on me that this is a TTY scam. A scam i heard of where people use the TTY service for hearing impaired to communicate large orders to restaurants. Once i was able to ask a few more questions and catch them in a few lies it became apparent this is what this whole ordeal was.
