Adaptix Imaging US Reports & Reviews (1)

The scammer reached out to me representing themselves (under the name "Debra ***") as having seen my resume and profile on ***. They claimed to have a remote position for an editor, and I would have an interview the next day with "*** ***." There were several red flags throughout the process, but a combination of hope and desperation blunted the edge of my skepticism. Nevertheless, I reached out to a friend who works in email automation and asked them to take a look at the email. I also did my own research on the company. I found the adaptiximaging.com (no US) site, I found *** *** profile, and I found a registration for the adaptiximagingus.com website, seemingly opened two weeks ago then. My friend found ***s name and didn't see anything else - everything seemed like a legitimate albeit weird expansion/hiring effort.

I had an interview conducted through Google hangouts the next day. Many questions were asked, I was given limited time to answer them, and then I was told I passed the interview and would begin training the next day. For the next two days, I was sent medical texts to copy-edit - one on malaria and another on cancer. During this time, I consulted with a nurse/lawyer (APA formatting expert), a clinical psychologist (APA expert), and a HR executive. I described my situation and my reservations to each of them, and while they were happy to help with the task (proofing a medical document, APA), none voiced concerns about it being a scam.

I was also told by the scammer (as "Hannah ***) that I would be provided with funds to set up a home office, specific to a list of tech they wanted - laptop, printer, scanner, and some software packages. By the end of the second day, they had delivered a Fed-Ex'd check to my home address and I deposited it - while consulting with my bank along the way. The bank said that the check did pass their initial review.

On the third day of training, they directed me to drive to a local Safeway to make a purchase/withdrawal of bitcoin. I was confused by this and the local markets don't have a lot of tech offerings, so I was directed to go to my bank and obtain a cashier's check for the wholesaler I was supposed to buy the computer and software from - "Solomon ***."

At this point, I was increasingly suspicious. I ***'d ***'s name: nothing as a wholesaler or in Arizona. I had asked if he was a local wholesaler as well. I went to my bank and asked them to verify the check I deposited as well as the requests being made to me about bitcoin, bitcoin wallets, and cashier's checks. They referred me to a branch vice president who was able to verify that the account backing the check written to me and deposited was fraudulent. The bank and I closed my account immediately and transferred my funds to a new account.

The goal of the scam seems to be to provide you with a worthless check that makes it past the initial deposit, and then to have you withdraw funds to "pay" someone. Those "real" funds are taken by that someone and they vanish, before the worthless check has cleared. Once the worthless check bounces, you're out the money that you put into a cashier's check.

The scammer attempted to reach out to me twice more by hangout while I was at the bank, then texted me once (I believe it was them - I included the number below). I didn't respond to any of these attempts and finished closing my account with my bank.

My bank left the $4880.25 from the worthless check in the old account and told me they would monitor it.

I reached out directly to Adaptix Imaging in Oxford and they verified that they had no US recruitment ongoing and I exchanged emails with the real Hannah ***.

There were many red flags along the way, but I was desperate for a job and it was, quite literally, too good to be true.
