I received the following email from Rachael. I had a zoom interview withered Barmada the next day. I was told I was one of 20 chosen from 300 applicants for the job. I never applied for this job. They were then choosing 5 for second round interviews. If I received a call between 7:30-8:00 pm then I was chosen for the second round.

I questioned Raed about how big the company was and how long they've been in South Bend. I got red flags with the answers and then questioned if this position would have "ownership" in the company. He responded yes and only if I made it to the next round would things be explained. I didn't get "the call".

Here is the email:

Hello Kimberley!

My name is Rachel and I am the recruitment assistant here at ACME Consulting. We are a marketing and consulting firm located downtown South Bend, IN working with Fortune 500 clients to give them the best direct marketing outreach possible. We have been searching for the perfect candidate for our Management Training position and have not found the right fit which is why we have started looking at people who have not directly applied yet. We are looking for people with skills or prior experience in customer service, sales, marketing, and management. We offer paid-training which means entry-level is also welcome but prior experience is preferred.

We received your resume from a database (such as CareerBuilder, ZipRecruiter, Indeed, etc.) because we believe you have the experience, skills, or ability to learn that would work well in this position.

In the Management Training position, you would learn to run client meetings, oversee our marketing dept., learn to interview, etc. Basic day to day duties includes working with clients and their customers on a face to face basis, analytics of sales and revenue for clientele, and running training meetings for the sales and marketing team. The pay range is $35K-$60K annually plus bonuses and the pay structures are discussed in the 2nd round interview.

After reviewing your resume and forwarding it to our hiring manager, we would like to invite you to join a video interview as soon as possible. Due to COVID-19, the interviews can not be in person so it will be a short video call with our hiring manager answering a few questions. Even though you are -- hopefully -- in your home and staying safe, we would like you to be presentable and dressed business casual or even business professional. We will only be choosing a few candidates to move on to the 2nd round interview so first impressions will be very important.

If you have any questions that did not get answered from the top portion of this email please ask us via email. We are very busy due to COVID-19 so please be patient with us if we do not get back to you immediately, we will respond as quickly as we can to any questions or concerns.

I was recently contacted via text message and email by a person named Rachel from a company called ACME Consulting. In the text message, the person wrote: "This is Rachel with ACME Consulting. We received your resume & would like to invite you to interview. Let me know what works for you." Prior to this first text message, I had NOT applied for any of their positions they are supposedly hiring for--one being "PAID Marketing Internship" which is listed on ZipRecruiter. I currently have my resume on ZipRecruiter, so I am assuming this is where they found my information. After receiving this text, I messaged "Rachel" back and asked questions about what the position would entail and they never messaged me back with answers. Instead, a few days later, they text messaged me again with the same exact text message--this set off a red flag, as this made it clear to me that the text messages are automated. They also sent me an email as well, and in the email, "Rachel" is only referred to as "Rachel O., Recruitment Assistant". Any real accredited company WILL put the person's FULL name. Under "Rachel O." there is a LinkedIn icon, however you cannot click on it. There is also an icon for Instagram for which you can click on that will take you to: @acme_consulting. When on the instagram page, they seem to be following weird and unrelated people such as Sly Stallone and also, their pictures on their profile are also very generic.

I also went to their website, thisisacme.com, and noticed immediately that the website is EXTREMELY generic and they also make HUGE claims to have worked with tons of Fortune 500 clients such as Disney, Comcast, Best Buy, Verizon, Google, Walmart, Coca Cola, etc. They also claim that they began in 2015 in Miami, Florida, and for some reason, they relocated to the Midwest and they also claim to have expanded to the Bay Area of California. If all of these claims are true and they are such a great company, then why is it that I have never heard of them before? Also, when searching online, they don't seem to have much of a social media presence: you cannot find anything about them on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter. Furthermore, another big red flag: if they have all of these Fortune 500 clients that they have done marketing and design work for....where are examples of the SPECIFIC work that they have done?? Any true marketing or graphic design firm business will have real examples of their work on their website portfolio to highlight what they can do! They WOULD NOT just have a page listing their clients with only those clients' logos!

To sum everything up, PLEASE do not trust this "business". If something is too good to be true, most likely it IS too good to be true. Please be careful in your job pursuits!

My husband was previously offered an interview at a company called Global Pinnacle. He was asked to come to a 15 minute touch base. Upon arrival, he was asked to fill out a questionnaire with questions about where he wants to travel, his dreams, and vague questions. He then sat down with a man named Ralph who explained to him that he worked for Global Pinnacle which was an advertising and project management company. https://www.theglobalpinnacle.com/about He had a big map behind him in the office and he explained that every “pin” you saw was an office that Global Pinnacle owned. He said that they were handling marketing and advertising projects for Coco-Cola, Disney, the Yankees, and other logos that were shown on their site. He mentioned that the role would be an entry level role where you would be trained to become a marketing leader. You would start out on the bottom and then you would be trained to lead “back to front and in the middle.” My husband felt that the whole process was a scam but didn’t receive a call back after the interview.

A month later I applied to a company called Acme Consulting. https://www.thisisacme.com/

I applied for a project manager position but my husband noticed that the wording was very similar to the Global Pinnacle position that he applied to. When I showed up to the office it was just a room in a small building. It was the same exact place that my husband had been to in the same exact office. The hiring manager, Ralph, gave me the same questionnaire that my husband had filled out and went through the exact same description as he did with my husband. He claimed that they were marketing for top brands all around the world. When I questioned him about the company Global Pinnacle he said that “his partner was the one who owned that and was no longer with the company.” I did not receive a call back because I did say I was over qualified for the position.
