Type of a scam Debt Collections
This debt was from a company that I had borrowed money from. I believed that I had satisfied the loan but could not find any documentation that could prove that. My mother said she would help me. She used her credit card and paid $479.11. I would have to make a payment on or before December 5, 2015 of $319.41. That is a total of $798.52.
I decided to do some research on them before my second and final payment was made. I could not find this company listed anywhere and they did not use a physical address. Only a P.O. Box. I did a reverse telephone number search and found others who had been contacted by this company and threatened with a felony and jail.
I called the company to ask some questions. At first I acted as if I wanted more time to pay the remaining balance. They agreed to let me split the $319.41 into 2 payments. I then told them that I was researching the company. I asked for a physical address. The man (did not give his name) refused to give that to me saying that they put people in jail all the time and that they did not want someone attacking them. ((Don't other people in other professions put people in jail all the time, yet we know their physical address?))
The man then said that he would report to the company that I was refusing to pay the balance. ((I never said I would not pay.)) He also said that they would contact the county Police to have me arrested, charged with a felony and put into jail. ((In Louisiana we do not have Counties. We have Parish's. I live in Jefferson Parish.)) Don't you think they would know that if they are collecting a debt and had to contact the Sheriff for some reason? He then hung up before I could say anything more.
This is a SCAM. I am sure.
