My computer was suddenly taken over by some unknown party that represented itself as being associated with Microsoft. I then received a phone call that began to discuss what was being displayed, namely many examples of viruses and other malware that were infecting my computer. The caller then made a pitch that I needed to immediately install the computer software that they had for sale. Though I clearly told them that I had only one computer and therefore needed only one license of the software they pressured me into purchasing 5 licenses with continuing support for 5 years for a total price of $1499.00.

After they installed the software I later discovered on the website of the maker of the software that their price for one license for 5 years was $182.66. So the bottom line is that the caller's tactics would gouge me for a total of $1315.34. I authorized payment by draft from my checking account, but have not yet lost any money as the drafts have not been completed.
