I was contacted via a website on 9/6/2017, https://www.upwork.com/, about a position as a Data Entry Agent. I was told to add the interviewing manager, Roberto Sarrio, on Google Chat or Hangouts to start the interview process. The interview process went well and everything appeared to be legitimate especially because the company he claims to work for is an actual business. I was then emailed a check (image attached) from a Glenn Chamorro - [email protected] - in the amount of $1,727.00. I was told to mobile deposit the check so that I could purchase the software needed for the position. I deposited the check and was told to report back online the following morning and would be given instructions on how to purchase the software. The next morning, 9/7/2017, I was given instructions to wire transfer via Walmart2Walmart $1,450 to Amy Lee Jones in Columbia, Missouri. I did this and was then told to go to a Western Union and wire the remaining amount to the same person. I did not go to a Western Union to complete this transaction because on my way home from completing the wire transfer I received a call from my bank stating that the check deposited was invalid and the transaction of my wire transfer flagged it as fraudulent activity. I attempted to go back to Walmart to try to get the funds reversed but they had already been retrieved by the other person. When I confronted Roberto that this is fraudulent he just kept telling me to wire the rest of the money and then the check will clear and my account would be in good standing. But I refused and demanded that they send back the $1,450 that I transferred, he said they couldn't because his accounting team was already processing the payment. From that point on he refused to give me a name, contact number, or any information about the business he said he worked for, he only said that someone would contact me but I knew that he could just have anyone contact me. My bank account is currently frozen, I have no access to any money, I was just diagnosed with stage 2 Colon Cancer and have no way to pay for rent, gas, food, medical bills, or anything. I feel foolish for falling for this scam and it has ruined my life. I don't want anyone else to have to go through this situation.
