This "company" attempted to scam me out of $2450. I was very cautious with this process from the moment I received a check from them. The conversation started off good enough but then turned hostile and aggressive at the end. See conversation with Alisa McCormick below. I have also attached the email I recieved from them.

I believe that the three major qualities of a good proofreader are, efficiency, having perfect grammar, and being able to identify misspelled words. First, being efficient is important because possessing the ability to read and identify areas of a document that has errors efficiently and correct them is crucial.

Second having a sense of what punctuations, structure of sentences and wording is very important in any form of document and will be critical in the editing process.

Lastly spelling is everything. It would be horrible if someone’s name or a city was misspelled. Names are, in my opinion, the most important thing that a good writer/editor needs to get right.

My approach to problem solving is to make sure I have all my ducks in a row, if you would. Get the necessary facts and then proceed with the solutions needed to correct the write up.

I think being a first class researcher and interviewer is very important in being a creative copywriter. Having a deep knowledge about the audience you are trying to reach. Finally an inherent ability to crave learning is essential.

My outgoing and friendly nature allows me to interact well with other staff members at all levels.

I can type about 225 WPM.

I do not have military experience.

The thing that differentiates me from any of my former co-workers is that I am not afraid to take risks and I always follow the guidelines and policies of the company that I am working for.

I would like to think that my time management skills are at about an 8. I don’t have perfect time management when there is work overload. I don’t believe anyone really does.

The Company currently has an ongoing project that you will proofread some of the articles, Employment & Obligation Paper works will be sent to you tomorrow 6/20/2019 by 8 am your time. I'll like you to pay detailed attention to the details I'll provide to you henceforth as I'll be taking you through your job details, the duties and every other thing that you need to know about this position.

DAILY DUTIES:

Read copy against client-supplied copy to ensure that final output is accurate and complete

Read for errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar

Ensure that client style as well as in-house style guidelines are followed

Mark up copy and designs using traditional proofreader marks to indicate to typesetters, designers and programmers any changes or corrections that are needed

Review content, fact-check information and raise flags about questionable/inconsistent information

Proof print work, PowerPoint presentations as well as interactive multimedia projects

Measure dimensions, spacing and positioning of page elements to verify adherence to specifications and check for color accuracy

Check revised proofs to ensure that all corrections/changes have been made

1. Setting Up of the required Mini Office Equipment's.

2. Training.

Before you begin working with the Company you will undergo a probation of 1 week, this training consists of different kinds of task to enable you have strong understanding and confidence about your daily task.

Do you have the following items at home • Macbook Pro laptop (14") with 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory (OSX 10.6.8)

• HP Color Laserjet CP 2025 laser printer

• Epson Perfection 3200 Photo flatbed scanner

• Brother Intellifax 1270 plain paper fax machine

• AP style 2019 and Grammarly 2018 Softwares?

I do not have the fax machine or the Grammarly 2018 Software installed on my laptop.

The Company will finance and set up a new home office for you so you'll be needing the specified Hardware's & Software's for this position to complete your full home office however this won't hinder your application negatively as the Company will take care of financing your full home office. You will be receiving a check which will cover the cost of your home office Equipment's both hardware's and software's. The check will cover the cost of all home office Equipment's both Hardware's & Software's and instructions will be provided to you when you receive the funds for the home office equipment set up.

I have a Dell laptop. Will that be sufficient?

Yes, you can use that for the training until your new home office is set up.

You will be meeting with one of the Company's Representative after you have finished setting up your working equipment's she will bring along with her some brochures and documents with which you will view and make some signatures where necessary, this happens immediately you have all the equipment's setup for you to begin work with the Company. She will call you to set up an appointment with you and you'll meet with her at a nearby Restaurant to complete the official documentation as required. This happens immediately after the one-week probation is completed and she will call you to schedule an appointment with you. She will bring with her W2 form, Benefit form, tax forms and direct deposit form, the appointment will be after the one week training is completed.

We'll with a check with this amount it will take up to five days to clear my bank if it's not issued by them. It could be sooner.

Our checks are government certified so when deposit it only takes 24 hours to clear your bank.

I am. My bank is literally across the street from where I live so I'll go over now to deposit it.

They couldn't read the check so they tried to enter it manually and could not.

I am just trying to cover myself. This has been an unusual process from my normal remote positions. I am sure you can understand my hesitation. But I just checked the account and they have been made available.

You have already covered yourself more than the usual, you took the check to the bank and bank did a verification of the check for almost 2hrs, they finally put the check on hold to further verify it and after all verification has been completed they found out the check is good and made the money available for use.

You should be worried if a Company ask you to use personal funds to purchase working materials but that's not the case here because we have to make sure you have enough funds to cover the cost of the home office set up.

I am currently unemployed due to layoffs and have been applying to jobs online. I received an email about an interview opportunity from my post on Ziprecruiter. I was directed to use an online tool called Google Hangouts. The "HR Manager" asked me several situational questions during our online interview and made an offer for a remote Copywriter/Editor position. We would begin training the next day and they would set up my home office equipment. She explained they would need to send me the checks so that the equipment could be purchased locally. I was skeptical about the methods and even expressed my hesitancy about it, but she assured me this was the only way we could get the equipment set up quickly. Once the checks they sent me were deposited in my account, I would go to USPS and purchase money orders, then deposit them into the Wholesale vendors account. After a day or two, I noticed that the check was "recalled" and the amount was removed from my account. When I mentioned it to the HR manager, she said she would check it out and they would return the money to me. However, it happened again with the second and third check I deposited. Fortunately, I had not purchased a money order for the third check. She sent what was supposed to be the last check, but I did not deposit it. I told her that I would not be depositing any more checks until my money was returned because I was already uncomfortable and could not afford their "mistakes" in recalling the checks. I have since not heard from her any more.

I do not think the company, Abcodia, is actually the ones scamming but I may be wrong. I wonder if they are simply using that company name to fool people looking for work.
