Pop up came up when trying to access my flight information on https://aa.com. Said my reservation was not found, please call the reservation desk at 888 925 7203. I called and they said they couldn't find my reservation either. Kept me on the phone for a half hour then finally claimed they found it, and that the 3rd party I booked my tickets through did not pay the entire amount of the tickets, flight was changed slightly and they didn't charge the correct amount to reflect the new charges. I said it wasn't my fault the airline changed the flights, but they insisted I pay this to access my flight or be subject to standby and have to pay this anyway. I paid what they wanted and asked for a receipt to be emailed to me. They said no receipt will be given. I was very suspicious of that but when I logged back into my flight reservation, it was available. I called booking.com and they said these charges were invalid. If the airline changes the flight, the airline absorbs the cost. I called the reservation number found on https://aa.com which was 800 433 7300 and not the number that was on the pop up. They said no new charges were either levied or collected on their end. I googled the suspicious number from the pop up and it came up on reddit not to ever call that number, and they had gone through exactly what I had. The following day, booking.com called me back to confirm they have been working closely with american airlines on this, and asked what number I called, at which point they said no, american airlines reservation number was 800 433 7300. The number I called was not associated with the airline, it was likely a scam and advised me to call my credit card company.
