Initially, I received an email solicitation for a job opening. It was described as remote work that could be done full-time or part-time. The pay and benefits were extremely generous. They requested that I reply to the solicitation with a copy of my resume. I was searching for work, so I emailed my resume. They offered me the job and I accepted. I was to go through a 2-week trial period. My job title was procurement manager and my job duties were described as purchasing primarily electronic products, negotiating the best possible terms, and shipping them to designated addresses. The company claimed that I would receive a corporate credit card for purchasing after my 2-week training period. But for the training, I must use my own credit cards to make all the purchases. They also said they would pay off the balances on the credit cards I would use and this would in effect be their reimbursement in advance for the purchases I make. They supplied me with a long list of Apple products that they wanted to purchase. I could select anything from the list. Importantly, they never asked me for any credit card account information. This would have been a red flag for me. They obtained the balances on my credit cards by running a credit check on me. This was done with my own permission. They then told me they would provide a bank account number and routing number I could add to each of my cards for paying off my balances! They did this and I used them to pay off my credit cards. I then started to purchase items on the list. This created dept on my cards to replace the balances that had been paid off. But during the course of my purchases, I spoke to a Best Buy manager who warned me that this was a fraud. He said they would never reimburse me for any of my purchases or expenses. I contacted the company representative with whom I had been communicating and I told her what the Best Buy manager had said and I asked her when I would be reimbursed. It didn't take her long to hang up on me. Within the next 24 hours, each of the credit card balances that had been paid off were reversed! All the debt was back on each of my cards. This meant that their advance payments for each of my purchases were gone. I had purchased Apple products totaling $3020 and this was in addition to all my credit card debt which had been returned to my cards in full. I sent them an email pointing this out and requesting reimbursement for this amount. I never received a reply. I have labeled this an employment scam which it certainly was. But at its core, I believe this was a credit card scam. They are not interested in stealing personal information. They never asked me for account numbers or Social Security numbers. What they want is to use other people's money to purchase items which they will turn around and sell at 100% profit because they will never reimburse you. This is a sophisticated scam. Do not be fooled by its slick transparency aimed at creating mor legitimacy.
