Total money lost $1,499.90
Type of a scam Other
I called United Airline to cancel my ticket due to an emergency. Suddenly a third party was on the line, Air CHG, they told me they will refund the money but charge me $1,999 for taxes and other fees. I stated that there was no services to be taxed. Then they try to barter with me, and the sales croak said he wasn't flying this month so he gave me a $500 discount. All this time the agent is yelling, I need to hurry up and decide if I want his offer as it was only on the table for less than an hour. The sales croak was telling me I must pay this money
.
Already upset due to the change of plans, I was confused, but I tried to explain to the agent named Vick (866-404-9992) that I had purchased a refundable ticket. He said I did not. I also said am a senior citizen on a fixed income. and had been trying for over two years to make this trip because the doctors have found 2 different types of stage 4 cancer, he started to talk over me, very angrily.
The next couple of days I called again, more bullying, the airline went down to $1,399, (but they had the $1,499) then an agent named Nigel B. (201-839-3587) who confirmed my refundable ticket got it to $498 and a company called Wingstar Travel also charged my debit card. I called Wells Fargo bank to stop all payments.
Still these nefarious cronies has roughly $2,000 of my money on a seat they will resell.
I did recover my money after many calls to Air CHG, Wingstar Travel and my bank.
The problem I am having is how these third party entities got involved with my flight on United Airlines. My concern is that they may be trying to do this to other unsuspecting elder travelers.
