I received a call claiming to be from the fraud department regarding a fraudulent charge on my PC Mastercard.
I verified the number on my phone and it matched the number on the back of my credit card.
After several minutes of her asking me questions to authenticate my account and failed attempt at using my credit card to make a purchase, she finally hung up.
She told me to call back right away at this number (*21*2362355256#
236-235-5256) in order to proceed with flagging the transaction and to order a digital credit card. When she realized that I wasn’t calling back, she called multiple times to try to get me to call that number but I didn’t answer or call that number.
I felt uneasy about the whole thing so I called the number on the back of my credit card. It took a long time for me to get through to someone at the fraud department.
Once connected with a true agent, I asked if the fraud call was legit but said they were seeing some notes on my file about a suspicious activity but that she couldn’t really tell me more about it. This didn’t reassure me so I asked to speak to the supervisor and said it would take 2-3 business days to get back. I wanted to let them know that someone is using their business number to call customers and make them aware that it might be an inside job or phone hack.
