I am reporting a suspicious and harassing phone call I received from (833) 923-8440. The caller did not clearly identify who they were with, only claiming they were “with the state of Texas” and left a vague “claim number” on my voicemail. No agency name or reason for the call was given. They stated I needed to return the call immediately, or they would begin contacting my employer.
When I called the number back, the voicemail did not mention any business or agency. A man eventually answered and gave a different name than the one left on the voicemail—though it was clearly the same voice. I called several times, and each time the same man answered using a different name. This behavior is manipulative and inconsistent with any legitimate state or government office.
This is clearly a scam attempt involving intimidation, false legal threats, and impersonation of government authorities. While I did not engage with the caller or provide any personal information, I want to ensure this number is flagged and investigated to prevent others from being victimized.
