i received a text that i have a declined payment of 1500 dollars to hertz car rent a center, i normally get these texts from my bank when my card declines. upon receiving this text i responded "no" because i did not try to make a purchase through that company, i was just waking up when i received this text message. I then received a call from somebody impersonating a bank of america fraud claims employee. This person said they were working with the FDIC and gave me a fake claim number, then continued to tell me that someone was trying to complete a wire transfer with my card and that if i did not send a "reverse wire transfer" all of my money and bank information would be stolen. This scared me and i was alone and was stuck on the phone being convinced that this is the only way to stop anyone from sending themselves a wire transfer. Thinking that my account was hacked, i sent this so called "reverse wire transfer". To which i immediately knew something was not right so i drove to the bank. The scammer stayed on the line with me until i got to my local Bank of America branch, once i arrived they hung up on me. These scammers knew my name and number and how much money i had in my bank account which suspects me to believe it was a former Bank of America employee, they do not have any of my personal info. I filed a claim with the wire transfer fraud department with in 30 minutes. I have sense been in contact with the actual bank on and off and after spending hours trying to reach the manager of the wire transfer fraud branch, she was able to give me answers. I was told if the other bank that the money was sent to cannot recover the funds, then bank of america would review me as a customer (been a customer for over ten years), I was also told that the fact that somebody impersonated a Bank of America employee was enough grounds to retrieve the funds. A few days ago bank of america told me they will not be returning my funds and that my case was closed and they will be doing no further investigating.
