"Wells Fargo Bank" called claiming that someone had used my information to open a checking account and they wanted to verify two purchases. I stated that I don't have a Wells Fargo account. They asked if I made any online purchases, I said probably. They asked if I knew anyone in Phoenix, AZ. I said a coworker. They asked if she would steal my personal info. I said no. He then gave me a Case # and two cancellation #s and transferred me to "Zelle's fraud department." She asked for the case number. I said I don't have a Zelle account. She said many banks us it and then asked where I currently bank so she could "check if they use Zelle." I told her I was uncomfortable sharing that information since I wasn't really sure what the exact issue is she was supposed to help me with and it seemed kind of scammy. She said that I could "check the phone number that called to see that it was the bank." I told her that I could see it was a Wells Fargo number but that can be faked. She hung up on me then.

I was contacted on my cell phone by what appeared to be Wells Fargo. I was told that my Zelle account had been compromised and that a person named Monica Morgan was attempting to make withdrawals from my account. I was then given a case ID no. and cancellation codes for the two amounts that were supposedly pending. The person then instructed me to go to my Zelle account, type in a couple of letters and then enter numbers under the amount section. Immediately after I entered the first amount, I could see that I sent a payment to the person. I started to panic, and they told me I should have received a code to negate the amount I had just sent. The person was talking so fast and could tell I was panicking, and he told me that he would fix it by going back into my Zelle and punch in 999.99. Again, this amount came out of my checking account and my account went to a $0 balance. I really started freaking out and he told me to back into my Zelle and put in a code to protect my savings account. This is when I realized I had just been scammed. I immediately hung up the phone and called Wells Fargo.
