Received a call from Ron from Capital One Fraud Department. "Did I apply for a Cap One Venture ending in 1646 back in the beginning of this month January 2025." I said no, I did not. He kept pausing to take down my information. "Please wait, please wait." I told him that I already have two Cap One cards (no #s given) so why would I want another? "Oh my, please wait while I take down your information to stop the application and set up fraud protection for you." Me: Wait your number is not listed for Cap One. Ron: "You will not find it for the fraud department, it is not listed." I hung up and blocked the #

The scammer left me a message purporting to be from Capital One, calling me to report suspicious activity Associated with opening an account. The scammer gave me a case number and the last four numbers of an account number to reference. The scammer told me to call the number back and give the reference number. I called the number back, and it sounded like a legitimate Capital One call center, but then they started asking me for my personal information including my last four of my Social Security number. I hung up and called the legitimate Capital One fraud center, and they confirmed that the number the scammer called from (and told me to call back) was not a legitimate Capital One fraud number. Therefore I believe that the scammer was attempting to harvest my information by having me call a fake Capital One call center.

I received a call from 800-239-7054 who left a voicemail identifying the call as being Darryl from capital one application fraud team and asked me to call 855-522-8223 to verify my application number. I repeated the number and she said that was not all of the number and verified that I had not applied for their card, but then asked for my ssn so she could search for my application? Right! I said, nice try. And hung up.

Received letter in mail to my home address about Capital One claiming they have placed a hold on my West Elm Key Rewards Card account and that we needed to call.

They asked for my last 4 digits of social security number, which I gave them, and then asked for copies of my SSN card, drivers license, and utility bill or something else that proved residency.

I received a letter in the mail from what I was lead to believe to be CapitalOne, who I have an account with, informing me that I had to call to provide additional information to the Fraud Department about an account attempting to be open in my name and provided a number to do so. I called the number provided..They then took my name and social security number. I then noticed it was a different number than what was listed online for CapitalOne fraud department.

My credit card was restricted and noone would tell me why. They just wanted additional identification; Copy of my drivers lincense, social security card, proof of address, and 3 months bank statements. Would not give a reason for my credit card being restricted. I did not send the information they requested.

Caller ID said Capital one. I did an online search for this number and this is definitely NOT there number. There are 16 results so I know this is a a scam.

My son has Capital One account auto loan which I co-signed with him. Now I am receiving postal mail telling me that my information needs updating or the account will be closed in 45 days. I am told to call the number given, 800-239-7054. I am sure this is a scam, and I have disregarded it. This is the 3rd time this has happened, and the letter looks totally official.

Scammer predended to be the Capital One Fraud Department and asked for my SSN, DOB, home address and Account number. When I declined to tell them anything they started shouting and I hung up.
