Our business received an initial email requesting a quote from a person claiming to be in the US National Guard, relocating to a home locally that needed a security system at a specific and viable address. Bit by bit, through a series of emails, the person pieced out information AND STRUNG US ALONG: This person also claimed to be hearing impaired, could not speak over the phone, and in another email then disclosed that he was in the hospital with lung cancer. The final email, with yet another disclosure, exposed the fraud: As a "favor" wanted to process a credit card for $6200. We could keep $1200 for the installation and give $5000 to the "ex-initial owner of the property" to pay the balance owed on the home.
