They repeated to me all of my trademark application information (which is public) and she was very cheerful and friendly, but then she said I needed to pay $420 to move to the next steps of a registered trademark or some similar story. I told her I would prefer an invoice of some sort and she said she understood I was uncomfortable but that I should check online and verify that the phone number was an official government phone number (which I did in the first 10 seconds of the call), and I said that anyone could make their number LOOK like any other number and that if they could send an invoice via email or regular mail, I would pay that, but I wasn't going to just give a stranger on the phone my credit card information. She said I would get something in the mail, so we shall see. BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!!!

I received two calls today with the same tactic. They verified all of the information found in my trademark application (name, address, email address and phone number) and discussed my application. They both proceeded to ask for funds to finalize my information and authorize me to use the "TM" symbol on my logo.

Received a call from someone spoofing the US PTO phone number and claiming to be from the Patent and Trademark Office. The purpose of the call was to "verify the trademark filing" which he did with some pageantry. After asking me personal questions about my identity (name, address, DOB) and reading me a series of "disclosures" about when my trademark will be filed, he informed me that I needed to make a payment of $425 to publish the trademark. I told him I needed to independently verify this, as I wasn't aware there were any further charges. He patiently guided me to the US PTO website, found some listing of $425, and claimed that was what I needed to pay. I was skeptical, but based on the data on the website I agreed to provide payment info. Upon receiving a lengthy "verification number" he told me my trademark was now approved. Upon hanging up I did a deeper search and found a warning from the US PTO website stating that they never call customers. I knew instantly I had been scammed. I called and canceled my credit card. I then called the US PTO office to inform them of the scam, and they confirmed that they never call anyone. IF YOU RECEIVE A CALL FROM US PTO IT IS A SCAM.

On April 19, 2023, I received a scam phone call from +1 571-272-1000 (one of the USPTO Contact Center phone numbers). The purpose of the call was to “make a personal verification from USPTO in regard to my recent USPTO Trademark application”. After talking about this matter for several minutes and providing me with some information about my Trademark application, the scammer specified that, as part of the process, I had to pay a $225 fee to keep my application alive for the next 6m and asked me to provide a payment method. After stating that he did not have access to the card info that I had in the system "because he was calling from a different department of USPTO and this was a complete over-the-phone process “, I provided my credit card info for this payment. A Confirmatory e-mail was supposed to be sent after the call.

Since the confirmatory e-mail never arrived, I called USPTO the following day to double check, and the USPTO customer service person confirmed there was no issue with my application, and no call was made from them, so, we realized it was a scam call. No payment was completed on my card since after I noticed it was a scam, I let my bank know about the incident.

I was called by a company impersonating the USPTO agent stating that my trademark application was approved and that i needed to pay a $277.81 fee. I told them I was not comfortable with giving my personal information and credit card information and they are stating that they are calling from a Federal office and the number on the caller ID match the number on the website as 571-272-1000. However, I reached out to an attorney who advised me that it was a scammed and they used spoofing caller id calls to appear that they were calling from the USPTO office. I've already reached out to my bank. However, I'm concerned about the other personal information they obtained.

I received a call earlier today from apparently "USPTO" (571-272-1000) asking me to pay the Filing Declaration of Use after 5 Years ($225 per class). After looking at the USPTO website and confirming the phone number, I assumed it was safe (https://www.uspto.gov/about-us/contact-us) and the woman over the phone was really good I would say.... She directed me to the USPTO website section to point me to the fee section, just to make sure it didn't come as a surprise....

Long story short- I gave them the last 4 digits of my SSN, date of birth, and CC infos after confirming ALL the details of my application (that they read to me in detail over the phone). They even provided me with a reference number at the end... BUT. I called back the number a few minutes later and talked to someone from the (real) USPTO office who confirmed that it was a scam (spoofed scam apparently) as no additional fee nor phone call should occur at that stage of my application with USPTO.
