Marvin Perez is a landscaping contractor well known in our neighborhood. He was recommended by neighbors, and has done a number of landscaping jobs for me without any problems. He claimed to be a general contractor, has replaced paver driveways in the neighborhood and seemed to have done excellent work. I have never done a contract with him for services, and because he has worked extensively in our neighborhood, I didn't think that one was necessary here. While completing some landscaping work for me, he told me that he was also a fencing contractor. I have a section of fencing that needed to be replaced, and he told me he could do it. He quoted an amount, asked for 50% of that amount for supplies, and I foolishly wrote him a check for that amount ($2770.) He cashed that amount the same day, told me when he would start the job. He did not show up as he said he would. That was four months ago. We have communicated via text numerous times, with him giving us numerous dates for performing the work, but then never showing up. His excuses included falling off a ladder, then getting "sick", then saying that his father was "sick" and he would be "back and forth from my country." Last communication was two weeks ago, he apologized and said the work would be done in two weeks and again gave us a date he would be here to do the job. But yet again, he did not come on the date he said he would.

I wanted to report this so that hopefully someone else will check ScamPulse.com and see my experience before hiring him. I made MANY foolish mistakes in trusting this contractor because he had done extensive work through the neighborhood. It has been an expensive lesson for me, but I now know to not trust contractors, check licenses and insurance, get written contracts, and pay nothing up front.
