Somebody called my in-laws pretending to be my college son. He claimed he had been in a car accident and if they didn't wire 3K to a lawyers office, because he had hit a pregnant woman. He also plead with them not to call his parents. They panicked and went to the bank. Thankfully, the teller felt something was off and checked into the hospital they took him to -no such hospital existed. Finally they called me - and I said that if something had happened, our son would have called, and that this sounded like a scam. The "lawyer" called back, they told him they knew it was a lie and they were calling the police. They hung up. What is so scary is how close they came to sending money they really don't have down a black hole.
