I received a call from (262)-944-4419 on October 11, 2024. The person had an accent and the background sounded noisy. He said he were calling from Amazon and a purchase had been made from my account for Apple products in the amount of $1,000+ to be sent to 49 Arcadia Court in Albany, N.Y. The person said they were calling me because the billing address that the purchaser had entered did not match the one I have one file. They were calling me to protect my account. This seemed very suspicious to me because the transaction should NOT have gone through then! Plus why was he calling me from a non- 1-800 number. But he also was convincing! So I stayed on the line to hear him out. He then suggested I check my bank account and was asking me for some personal information (last 4 digits of my SS#). I did not give him ANY information. I told the person I did not place this order and I had used a credit card so there is no need for me to check my bank account. I checked my Amazon account and did NOT see any suspicious activity and did NOT see this Apple order to be sent to Albany, NY. I shared this with the caller and also asked for whatever particular Amazon transaction he was referring to (which I did not see on my account ) to be cancelled. He mentioned identity fraud and said he was accelerating this situation to his supervisor and placed me on a brief hold. Another man got on the phone - he also had an accent. He asked me for my name and date of birth. I gave NO information (he should know my name) and instead asked for him for his name and an 800 number I could call him back on. He said his name was "Richard Clark" and he gave me the number 1-800-280-4431 x 301. I called that number and it was not an Amazon number.
