On Tuesday 4/2/24 I was on Facebook and opened an article to read. A blue screen came up saying there was a Trojan virus. I was unable to close out as the screen would not allow me too close. I shut down the computer but it was still there when I turned it back on. I shut down again but it was still there. There was a phone number to call for Microsoft 866-464-0477. I called it and it sounded suspicious so I hung up. I Googled a phone number for Microsoft, called the number 844-526-0211. Spoke with a man named “Shane” who then transferred me to “Daniel” in the refund department of "Microsoft", who then called me back from 229-299-9117. Because someone had purchased a 9MM gun for $199.99 but didn’t say how and 16 people had hacked my computer. Saying they were from "Microsoft" and they would take care of the problem and reimburse me. I was assured that it was Microsoft over and over because I kept asking. "Daniel" in the refund department said they are all over the world and get many calls. I gave them access to my computer through Anydesk.com. I thought it was legitimate because I have had legitimate IT people do the same with different logins with codes. They asked me to log on to my bank and credit cards to check but there was no activity. He said don’t worry they would reimburse me for with $200.00 but had to fill out a form. A black screen came up and asked me to enter name, address, phone and bank name. Then he said put in 200 decimal 00, I reiterated to put 200 decimal 00 and he said yes. This was an irreversible transfer which I did but it came up 20000. He led me to believe I made the error and said his job was in jeopardy and I needed to reimburse Microsoft or I would be criminally charged. He showed me on my bank that the money had been put in my account with the deposit showing “Microsoft”. There was “ACCOUNT on Hold” in blue at the top of my account.

I was told to go to the bank and withdraw then money and deposit it back to their bank, Bank of America via a Bitcoin machine. I did go to the bank and withdraw the money saying I wanted to pay off my car as told to do. The bank would give me only $15,000. Supposedly the Educators Credit Union manager tried to call at 4:03 PM but my phone never rang. I believe the scammer somehow silenced my phone. I proceeded to go to a Bitcoin machine, the first which would not accept the transfer and another which I would not go to, so was told to go to a third one. The machine wouldn’t take one of the $50 bills because it was torn in one spot so he said I could “keep it for my troubles”. I "repaid" $14,950. They also had a screen shot of my driver’s license. I have obtained a new one on 4/9/24.

An officer from the Police Department was called and an incident report was filed the evening of 4/2/24. We called Bitcoin while he was here to ask what to do at this point.

The police officer said that he tried calling the number 844-526-0211 on Wednesday 4/3 and he was put on hold which then disconnected.

A case was also filed with Bitcoin, per their instructions, which has been denied and the decision is final on Monday 4/8/24

Unbeknownst to me this money came from my account at the credit union. I found this out when going to the bank on 4/3 Wednesday talking with the fraud department via phone. According to the person I spoke with, this is NOT a fraud case. I believe there should be a limit as to how much can be withdrawn at a time. And the manager should have come over to me while in the bank instead of calling me after leaving the bank.

Since I still owed $5,000 "Daniel" said he would call me at 9:00 AM on Wednesday 4/3 to instruct me further. He did call at 8:49 AM 229-299-9117 but I did not answer. I had three more calls in the afternoon between 4:42 – 4:45 PM which I did not answer from the same number 229-299-9117.

Throughout the day on Tuesday 4/2/24, we were on the phone for approximately 4-5 hours, never losing contact.
