Type of a scam Phishing
It was one of these:
866-307-5326 or 828-680- 7945 or 833-488-1992. I explained my problem and was forwarded to "James" at 206-339-1034 ext 206. He was polite and seemed helpful and knowledgeable. He directed me to try various things including installing Anydesk on my phone which gave him access to see my screen (bad idea).
He told me they needed to have me pay a fee but that money would be reimbursed. Several attempts were made using both my credit and debit cards, so he accessed my security codes. All attempts were blocked (by my bank?).
He had me open my online banking app so he saw that.
Eventually he said the only way we could succeed would be for me to go to Walmart or Target to purchase gift cards. He stayed on my phone while I got in my car and started driving. As I drove I had time to consider what we had done and what I was being asked to do. Instead of Walmart I went to my bank and explained what was going on. They thought this was a scam so I had all my accounts frozen. Now I need to deal with that and get new cards.
As things progressed, note that the amounts of money kept increasing.
