I was contacted on my work landline about by a woman saying she was an investigator with OIG Jessica Castor Badge Number JC5156 about case #21031, she said that there was a recent raid in San Antonio Texas that revealed a money laundering ring and most of it was in my name with over 15 accounts open and money was being laundered in several countries. I was to involve and speak to no one about this as it was a legal matter and I could be held for hampering an investigation if I did. She wanted to know what accounts I had and how many. I told her I would tell her how many but would not give her any personal information. She then said she had to give me to the investigator to get the final information and statement. I was then put in contact with a senior investigator- he said he was officer David Freeman-Badge Number 2495. He said that I was checked out through the DEA and that I was found to be a law-abiding citizen, and he was there to help and clear me of any wrongdoing. He said that in 4 days I was to go to the Social Security Office, and he was going to send a request to have my SS number changed. I said I can go this afternoon, and he said no it has to be in 4 days. He said that all of my accounts will be frozen, and he would see if the treasury dept would allow me to keep my accounts as I was obviously not the one that had done this, and I was the victim of identity theft and my SSN number was compromised. He then came back on the line and said that unfortunately they won't be able to do that, but they will give me 60-90 minutes to secure my money before they do. At that point I knew it was a scam. I asked him that I think this is a scam and I need verification that you are, who you say you are. He then said he would give me a picture of his badge for verification, and he texted it to me. He then said that I could go to my bank and have a cashier's check made and I would have an account number and routing number generated by the Treasury and on Monday when I go to the Social Security Dept. I would be able to get the funds back, He said if I got the money out in cash or got another bank account it would prove that I was laundering money, and I would be arrested. I said again that I think you are scamming me and how do I know that you are who you say you are. He said I can have an officer from your local police department call you to verify my badge number if that would make you feel better. I told him the city in which I live, and he put me on hold and had in less that 2 minutes I received a call from a local number, or it showed as a local number and an officer Mark Benson badge number 7250 asked me for the badge number I wanted checked out. He said they are legit, and I was advised to do what they said. I was also told by them that if I went to the actual police department, that they would have no choice but to arrest me for money laundering until everything was cleared up. An hour went and picked up my daughter from school and stopped at the Social Security Dept and they said that my SSN wasn't compromised, and it was a scam. He calls me again and asked if I had gotten home, I told him that that it was a scam and he should be ashamed and God has a special place for people like him. He said he was going to call the local police department and have them come arrest me if I didn't cooperate. I said, I would be waiting. I am writing this as this because scamming has gotten way out of hand and that government really needs to protect people from it and not let these people pray on the elderly and people that fall for it. It could ruin people lives!!! This bunch of scammers is very well organized and convicting. They don't have a problem impersonating people we are supposed to trust. Like Law Enforcement!

Thank you for this you just saved my mom from getting scammed. I overheard her on the phone with someone and took the name and badge number in to search it up because it just didnt sound right and found your report. All the information you wrote is the exact same things they told her and gave her.
