Type of a scam Home Improvement
Over a week's time, I made payments totaling more than $4,500 without a formal contract in place. Additionally, he charged $8,600 to my Home Depot credit card for materials but failed to provide any receipts to verify these purchases. Now, he is falsely claiming that I owe him $11,500 while refusing to acknowledge the payments I have already made. Several of these payments were made via Zelle, and I also provided $1,300 in cash.
Despite my clear instructions, he failed to obtain the necessary permit for the work, which was a critical requirement. Furthermore, I later discovered that his contractor's license is for roofing, not basement finishing, meaning he was not properly qualified for the project.
The work that was completed is substandard. The flooring he installed is uneven in areas where the old floor was missing tiles, creating an unstable surface that is prone to breaking. This not only compromises the integrity of the flooring but also poses a safety hazard.
To make matters worse, he has not paid his workers, instead telling them that I have not compensated him—despite my having clear proof of payments. To this day, he has failed to furnish a valid invoice that outlines the scope of work, costs, or a proper breakdown of the charges.
Now, he has escalated his behavior by making harassing phone calls demanding more money. Despite my repeated requests for him to stop including blocking his number, he continues to call and has even stated that he will come to my home, which is extremely concerning and unacceptable.
As a single mother and new homeowner, I believe I am being deliberately targeted and scammed. I take my financial obligations very seriously, and my excellent credit history reflects my commitment to paying my debts. However, I refuse to be exploited by an individual engaging in unethical, deceptive, and possibly fraudulent business practices. His continued harassment has left me feeling unsafe, and I am prepared to take all necessary legal steps to protect myself and my home.
