Lifeline Medical Supply, LLC called spoofing a local area code and phone number that belonged to a doctors office. They informed that the doctor had ordered a durable medical device and that it would be covered by medicare. It was initially accepted because of the number being spoofed, and the person stating it had been ordered by the doctor. After contacting the doctor, they had no record of approving or requesting the order for the durable medical equipment. The company billed medicare who also billed the secondary insurance. This is durable medical fraud because there was no order. It is also illegal to spoof a phone number with the intent to defraud. This company has been reported to HHS, Medicare, and the Florida Attorney General. Always call to check and see if any solicitations are legitimate whether it be about medical care/ equipment, credit cards, account information, or bank information.
