What qualities and skills should a good graphic designer have? How do you work with collaborators like copywriters, developers, and project managers? Tell me about the final hand-off process.

Excellent communication. High level concept meetings should end in time-based results and initial concepts should flow smoothly from the design directors hands to his staff. Each dept lead should have a progress meeting and sign off on creative and further approvals as necessary

Final handoff should be the most polished product possible, with design and other teams supporting the sales and account staff as necessary

As far as skills a designer should have, as a design veteran/manager - inspiration to his or her staff and always thinking of the best tools and design strategies available. In any case, however - communication is key.

How do you incorporate feedback into your designs? What’s a time you received hard criticism for your work? Describe your creative process. What are the major steps?
I learned that you cannot be too attached to a concept or particular design.

So long as its not a huge set of creative work you should always be open to any criticism and or changes. Sometimes the random whim of upper management (MAKE IT RED) shines through (many times, actually) and you need to flow with requests like that, or respectfully counter why you believe in it (The client is Heineken, Sir. Primary color is emerald green)

There has always been criticism of design work, regardless of the person or team who executes it. What I said above covers the logistic of handling design edits and requests or critique.

For my creative process, I begin with sketches in the initial meeting. I am a big fan of marker boards and other means of communicating early stages of design work. After approval we move to loose digital versions, tightening as our milestones move on. Final package will be a complete set of all of the tools sales or marketing needs.

What brands do you most admire and how do they influence your work? Let’s say you’re designing a new logo for our company. What would it look like?
I am a big fan of American Icons. Coca-Cola, Converse, Apple. I love some of the European companies designs, especially high end fashion and retail like Armani, Hermes, Adidas.

Given the Transwesterns global presence and Real Estate/Development business influence, probably something that translates to a global/architectural element
How do you meet tough deadlines? Tell me about a time you completed great work under pressure.

At REDACTED, during certain events you would need to be on call, regardless of the time.

Realistically you should be able to avoid pressure based on the amount of work presented to you in your meetings and deliver accordingly.

When you do get something out of left field (The client changed his mind, he wants to use his mother's maiden name lol) Then you adapt and do whatever needs to be done to finish the job. Sometimes, failure will happen, it is inevitable - just be sure you learn from it and you change whatever need to be changed so it does not occur again.

What’s an example of a project where you disagreed with the client’s feedback and how did you handle it?

Sorry to use the age-old phrase "The client is always right" but it really is a correct adage. Here as I said before you need to be an adept communicator to explain your side of the argument. (If you really need to) Sometimes you have to take a bath on what you and your team thought was a beautiful design but was changed because the client wanted it done.

This is true from any aspect of design. People change their minds.

What’s an example of a project where you disagreed with the client’s feedback and how did you handle it?

One of our huge accounts, REDACTED - began doing ad runs for ROS (All over REDACTED.com) so these were high impact ad placements and quite a few of them.
REDACTED as you may know is a pharmaceutical corporation and require legal copy for each ad, regardless of size of the ads. Some of the ads are very small in size (mobile, etc) we just could not run effective creative with a 50 word count legal accompaniment.

So I put together a powerpoint presentation of what people were responding to - and surely enough the ads with all of the clutter were not as effective as the larger visual creative. So with that ammunition the client dropped anything smaller than a certain size AND regrouped their investment in stream media ads that were used on smaller units.

How do you measure the success of your designs?

I've always thought the greatest thing you can hear it "whoa. that's cool." No matter if for a cutting edge piece of art, or a logo for a coffeemaker.

The best measurement of design work is the clients happiness and continued success. While I have had the pleasure of winning some awards and having back slaps, the quiet humming of a good design engine is the best thing you could ask for.
I should add to that: Continued BUSINESS.

I am someone that loves to have fun while he gets the job done. I have worked in so many aspects of design im unsure which I like best, but its probably the satisfaction that I have always had great success and an impact wherever I have been. (My last two jobs were 14 and 12 years respectively)
My last full-time job was at REDACTED and it was a real great place to work, but could get crazy hours. We created cutting edge technology (the first to stream live sports, the first to stream pay-per live sports and subscriptions)

Normally, the company makes the purchase of the materials for our employees but due to errors that has been happening on the receipts of purchase from the vendor, it was stated that all employees makes the purchase of the materials while the company provides the funds that would be used for the purchase because if you are able to work for the company for a period of 12-16 weeks, the materials automatically becomes yours And your name has to be on the receipt of purchase to show that you made the order from the vendor.

I own all of them items listed.

Before you start work,you will receive a payment sent by check,you will be using this payment to set up your mini office by purchasing the office equipment and accounting software, immediately you get this payment you start work fully.
