I am a traveling PT preparing for a contract in Alaska. I was told that Facebook was a spot to look for rental homes. I talked to may people and different owners but was unable to locate one until I found a great deal on a 1 bed room 1 bath apartment. Location 191 E DANNA AVE, WASILLA, AK 99654. I contacted the person via FB and they asked for my email to precede. They has questions to see if I would qualify for the apartment. They said I qualified and sent over a very detailed rental agreement that looked very legitimate. The bank information for the landlords bank account was provided. They said that a deposit of $1,000 and first months rent of $1,050, a total of $2050, was due to hold the apartment for 1 month until I got there. They did tell me strange details about the current tenants, but I looked past this. I paid the wire transfer and 2 days later received a "renters recipe" which I had to show day of the viewing as proof of person. This was from a different company called Tranquil Homes and Properties ( https://tranquilhomesproperties.com/agents/). About 1 week later (today) I received an email saying that new laws have been in placed that they need an additional payment of last month's rent to be sent "immediately" for me to be able to hold the apartment and get keys upon arrival. This did not make sense so I asked the property manager to call me. When getting the call it was from a Tucson AZ number not an Alaska area code. He was very hard to hear and when questioned why he had a Tucson number he would not give an answer. He kept asking if I could hear him and that there was nothing to worry about. I Asking for the contact information of a Anthony Allen who was listed as the general manager for Tranquil Homes and Properties and the person who sent me the renters' receipt 1 week before. As I was waiting for his call I looked up the website for this company. and looked up the FB listing (which was taken down and the profile deleted). It was riddled with errors and did not have anyone named Anthony Allen listed on the website. The phone numbers are all the same with a different area code then the address and none of the number would go through. I received a call from "Anthony Allen", once again it was very hard to hear and it was a Minnesota Area code. When I asked "who is this" because he did not introduce himself, He said I am the general manager. I asked if this was Allen and he said "yes this is Allen" which is the last name given not the first. When questioned about why he was not on the website and why he was not located in AK he told me he could send me the link even though I was looking at the website while talking to him. Once he sent be the website one of the names under the 3rd picture in the top row was changed to Anthony Allen with his email and phone number. I watched it change when I refreshed it. He had an excuse to why they updated it. I also looked up the property on Zillow and it is a 2 bedroom 1 bath condo that is owned and not for rent. They took pictures from the Zillow website, the furniture and pictures are the same. I have filled a report to try to get my money back with the Bank but im unsure it it will be recovered. When I asked for my money back they said they needed by account numbers to transfer it back which I did not give to them. They had asked for Money via Zelle and told them they could Zelle me because they already had my number. I first checked with may bank to make sure that was secure, and they reported it was.
