There were two of them, Craig Saxon and Chadwick Saxon, that came to the house to give us an estimate for a new GAF metal roof on 9/29/2023. They showed us a drone video of our roof. Said they could get satellite dimensions of our roof for the measurements. They said we were getting a good deal as a customer had ordered this roof and canceled it, so they had the roof in their warehouse. They showed us a GAF Certified residential roofing contractor certificate for Sunset Builders LLC (GAF ID: 1139604 Valid Through: 11/2023) They left us with a written estimate which was good for 7 days. We told them we had to think about it, and called them back in 2 days to accept the estimate. Chadwick came back out to our house asking for half the money up front. When I questioned why half, that it is usually 10% or $1000.00, Chadwick said that the metal would be cut to our specific roof dimensions and he required half the money up front. My husband and Chadwick Saxon signed the paper write up of what would be done and agreed on the install date of 11/13/2023 weather dependent. My husband wrote the check out to Sunset Builders LLC on 10/04/2023 and the check was cashed the next day 10/05/2023. We called a couple of days later to let Chadwick know the color roof we wanted. A few days before our install date my husband called to verify and get a time of arrival of the roofing crew. My husband was told by the receptionist that we were not on the schedule. Later my husband got a call that the new date is in December. That date came and went and now they were not answering their phone. We now realized that we were taken, and went to the police station and filed a report. A few days after filing the report Chadwick Saxton called with a new roof installation date for January. Well we are now into February and still do not have a roof. I went to the GAF website and saw that Sunset Builders LLC is still listed as one of their contractors, so I reached out to NAVEX (which is a 3rd party for GAF). I received a phone call from NAVEX and I explained what happened and that I just wanted them to know. The NAVEX person argued with me saying they were not liable and that Sunset Builders LLC has not been on their website since November, however I went to the GAF website today and they are still listed as one of their certified contractors. I have also reached out to the State of Alabama Attorney General. I will not rest knowing that Sunset Builders LLC (Craig and Chadwick Saxon) with a GAF Certified certificate are out there doing business as usual Scamming others out of their hard earned money.
