Type of a scam Identity Theft

My wife googled Lufthansa Customer support, and called this number: 855 838 4971. They posed as Lufthansa and she gave them our confirmation number, which they used to gather more information about us from Lufthansa's website. They used that information to convince us that they were legitimate, and then told us we would have to pay $1600 to reissue the tickets at the current price in order to change her name on her ticket. We escalated to another level, thinking we were talking to a manager, and were told nothing could be done about the charges. He then said they would give us a one time voucher for $200 off the total, which brought it down to $1400. I then gave him my credit card information, and he emailed me with this address: [email protected] asking for a picture of my wife's passport. I sent that along too. By this time I was getting suspicious, but it was already too late. He said the charges would be small and add up to the total amount, (just like Lufthansa) and post in 24 to 48 hours once the change was made. He provided the following number that he would use to contact me with: 888-502-2596. I googled his number and his email and both came back as flagged as a scammer. I then received a call from him the next day from this number: 888-738-0676 and he said there was an issue processing my payment.
