My car broke down in Augusta, Maine. I had looked on Google to see what towing companies to pick from, and I had seen this towing company that boasted themselves on being 30 minutes or less for a towing. I have never needed to get my car towed before, so no red flags were raised when they needed my debit card information and said that it would be a $250 service. They said it would be a 30-60 wait before I received help. One hour passed, and I called them back stating that no one had yet to arrive, and they said that 'someone was on the way', and hung up on me. I waited for a total of three and a half hours for no one to show up. Every time I called, they said 'they're on their way' but were unable to give me an actual location of the driver. When I had told them I wanted to cancel after waiting all of that time, they said it would be an additional 50-100% charge for cancelling, on top of the $250 I had already spent.When asked to speak with their supervisor, they said 'she's busy' and that 'she will call you in a little bit'. I gave them hell on the phone and ultimately got my payment cancelled because I told them I was going to report them, but I still had to cancel my debit card. When an actually legitimate towing company came to get me, they had asked if I had been scammed and said that it has been happening to a lot of people recently in the area.
