SCAM ALERT! ReservationCounter.com is a scam and so is the 3rd party site they use, Lotsofhotels.com
Many 3rd party companies use Lots Of Hotels, like Reservation Counter & Kayak, as their 3rd party to book hotels. They advertise the best rates, but just charged me $1,533.90 more than if I had booked with the hotel directly, not including their $17.99 reservation fee. Not to mention are trying to refuse to give me a refund of $3,800 when I called within minutes of receiving the email from Lots of Hotels, a company I did not consent to book with- I booked with Reservation Counter. I just rebooked the same reservation dates at a 5-star resort and it was only $82 more than what they charged to book a 3-star hotel. This is a total scam. This is predatory behaviour from both Lots of Hotels and Reservation Counter.

On April 30, 2025 I attempted to make a reservation for a one night stay at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. I did a google search for the hotel and found a reservation link which I believed to be the actual hotel website. The link for this website can be found here:

https://www.reservationcounter.com/hotels/show/5fe200b/renaissance-hotel-phoenix... />
I proceeded to make my reservation with a price shown at $218 for the one night (May 14, 2025). As soon as I placed my final order to secure the reservation, a notice popped up on my phone that I had been charged $353.97. This was far in excess of normal fees and taxes, which I have since confirmed with the hotel. Most importantly, this final charge was NOT shown on the website at any time during my making this reservation.

I immediately cancelled the reservation, as this excessive charge is far outside of the going rate for a room at this hotel through the actual hotel, Amex or Marriott. I was only refunded $108.57, hence my contesting the remaining $245.40.

I am also providing the order confirmation email that I received AFTER finalizing the reservation on their website, as well as my cancellation email.

The key reason for me to contest this excessive charge is that at no point was it divulged until after the charge was completed. Had I known that I would have been charged an additional 62% ($135.97), I would NOT have made this reservation.

I have since made this reservation through the Amex travel center for a total charge, including all fees and taxes, of $245.50. This is inline with industry standards and reasonable.

When searching the web for a particular hotel, like Hilton, the hotel's logo appears on their website. You think that you are contacting the hotel that you searched for, but you are not. They are a third party that operates under the guise of being associated with the hotel. They told me they handle overflow calls for the hotel, not true. In addition to the cost for the hotel, they assess a $16 "service " fee without advising you. Talk directly with the hotel, save time and money. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Shady to say the least!

There are several articles online detailing the scam and fines assessed to this company.

We needed a hotel for two nights in Dunedin, Fl and I looked up Hampton Inn Dunedin. I thought I was calling the hotel directly and talked to an Indian sounding man. He asked for the usual information such as my name , address and card numbers but did take a long time 21 mins to book a reservation for two nights. He was assuring me that the reservation was for two nights for the hotel. When we came to the hotel it turned out he booked one night only and we were charged $341.40 for just one night and $15.99 booking fee. We had to cut our vacation short one full day and head home. We had stayed three prev nights at VRBO in another Florida city. Since then I’ve been receiving robocalls from Myanmar. We canceled my husband’s bank card just in case since it happened- we had used his card. We do not expect to get our money back but want to warn others about this business.

I looked online for the hotel and online it said reservation desk for roadway inn hotel but it wasn't even them it was another reservation company that never told me until I reserved it. on my statement that I was responsible for paying them 78.46 for them to reserve it. And immediately took my money for a reservation in 2&1/2 weeks away. I was expecting to pay $142. For 2 nights but was charged $205. Tried to cancel immediately but they said id have to pay a cancellation fee of 105. they charged me 78.64 just for making the reservation. Definitely a scam company all over in reviews I've done!

Reservation Desk Booking Confirmation - Response Requested (Order ID: 40333915518)

Hi,

I paid for a 2 night stay at the Travelodge in London, Ontario and I do not see my refund yet.

No one responded from the Reservation Desk regarding my stay there, plus the hotel is not one that I would recommend to anyone.

Please refund my Visa

Thanks,

The price was given as $582.30 but confirmation notice $749.13. Your associate "scam artist" did not mention any of this including your $15.99 fee!! Ww contacted the hotel and the price quoted was $552.00 for King room. They also informed us that the room booked by your so-called service was for queen room!!

This is a complaint about the website ‘Reservation Counter’ using Grand Hyatt Nashville name as part of their website address and it is very misleading, especially because the fees they charge to book a reservation with hotel are excessive without providing an explanation of the breakdowns.

The reservation I made for the Grand Hyatt Nashville was booked through the ‘reservation counter’ website which is charging customers extra fees that they cannot explain besides the normal city and state taxes. I booked a reservation online and the website was misleading as it was grand hyatt reservation counter and the actual website is ‘reservation counter grand hyatt’. Very misleading to customers. The ‘Reservation Counter’ support phone number on the website is not helpful with providing any answers about the breakdown of the bill and the email [email protected] is not sending replies either.

I just wanted someone to know about this third party that is using the name of Grand Hyatt reservation counter to trick and cost people extra money with no explanations.

Scammer is posing as a hotel booking website - I booked a hotel room and when I got to the hotel there was no reservation the hotel had never heard of the website and when I called their support like they said they would call me back and never called me - I never got my reservation or my money back

- Pompano Beach, FL, USA

I was quoted $114/night, and confirmed, but the resulting charge was over $250/night.

When I clicked on the chosen hotel name this business came up. I presumed I was dealing with the front desk of the hotel. I filled in all the info for the reservation. When the confirmation arrived (email), the date was wrong. The phone number on the website was no longer in service. I contacted them by reply to the confirming email. Received no response. Found I had been charged a service fee on my credit card. There had been no mention of a service charge. Hotel has not been notified of my cancellation. Does this mean I will be asked to pay for the night's stay because I didn't cancel?

- Winona, MN, USA

This was the first number that came up when I searched American Airlines. The scammer recited accurate flight data and then charged my credit card. When the payment did not go through as it was flagged, the scammer called me back and recharged the card.

- Madison, WV, USA

My wife went to a hotel website to reserve a room. She was redirected to reseervationcounter.com. Upon entering her card info to secure the room, the site had a glitch and appeared to her to not have completed the transaction. She reentered her information to make sure we had a reservation. She was charged for two rooms and assigned two reservation numbers. She called the hotel, and later spoke to the manager in person who said that due to having been scheduled through a third party, he could do nothing. We called reservationcounter.com and attempted to explain what happened. We needed only one, NOT TWO rooms. A representative of the company kept trying to "overtalk" me when I called to resolve the matter. He later hung up on me. Reservationcounter.com is a scam.

- Eden, NY, USA

I called thinking I was talking directly to a Marriot hotel Springhill Suites in Erie PA. They posed as that location, took down information on my Marriott rewards card and as I was requesting what I needed for the reservation. I was assured that it was refundable a few days before my reservation date of 11/14/23. What I got was a confirmation the next day in email that was incorrect, and than I realize it was not from the hotel but an on line reservation company. I called immediately and they told me that it could be canceled but NO REFUND!!!! 5 days later I got a refund of only their service fee $15.99. However, I was charged for room at $122.87 which was not the room we wanted. They lied to get your credit card and book any room.

Charged a $15.99 fee to allow for cancelation. Refused cancellation. Ultimately, they charged more than $100 more for a one-night stay than the Hilton's website price. CROOKS! Lesson learned - do not click on the first link for hotel reservations.

I thought I was booking a hotel room on a holiday inn express website, but i was actually a third party. It was too late, they charged my credit card immediately. I called immediately to cancel and they refused to refund by money. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the person, "moses" refused. I have contacted my cc company to dispute the charge.

The attach to a link for hotel discount, as if they are the hotel. They book through another third-party website. When I tried to cancel through the same company they tried to get more personal information which I declined. The customer service persons hung up on me twice. I tried to cancel on the website but because it was a non-refundable - it told me I was unable to cancel. I did not seek this website out, I thought I was reserving through the hotel. I intended on staying at the hotel so non-refundable was not an issue until - I realized I unintentionally was going through a 3rd party. Had they just refunded the fee, even if they kept the service fee - I wouldn't have even noticed. However the sketchy tactics and customer service makes me sure that this is a scam center.

- Odenton, MD, USA

We contacted this company by accident as they paid to have their website, reservationcounter.com, as a top Google ad. We called the number thinking it was a direct call to the hotel.

The agent lied and told us he was working directly for the hotel we were trying to stay at. The agent quoted us a price and we gave him our credit card info to book the hotel. He then quickly said a different price which was much higher than he originally said. They said this was for 'fees'. We then said we didn't want to book it and the agent said no problem, he wouldn't book it. But alas, he booked it. We then tried to call and cancel, but they said they couldn't find the reservation. After multiple calls, we decided to dispute the credit charges. Only then did they find the reservation and said they would 'review the case'. Within two days they sent an email confirmation saying that they were able to cancel the reservation and we would be refunded our money, but we never received a refund. That email confirmation was over three weeks ago and I reached out multiple times via email with no response now. I have disputed the charge via my credit card company and want others to know that reservationcounter.com is a fraudulent company.

I thought I was booking directly with HOTEL - alas, not true.

I booked 2 nights 8/15-8/17/2022 AND 2 more 8/22-8/24. My plans fell through and I'm returning home tomorrow on the 17th.

I called to cancel the 22nd through 24th and am being told I HAVE TO PAY A 100% PENALTY. They REFUSE TO REFUND ANYTHING.

BOOK YOUR HOTEL DIRECTLY WITH THE HOTEL - DO NOT USED THESE CROOKS. You'll probably get the same or a BETTER rate and it will be refundable...

- Prescott, AZ, USA

Pretended to be Choice Hotels and told me the room charges were $114 and then billed me $164.00 without my permission. They charged me a $14.99 booking fee that I didn't agree to. I called to tell them I was being billed an amount I didn't agree to they told me after reviewing the recording that I did. They refused to give me a transcript of the recording at my request. I spoke to a Supervisor in Honduras by the name of Oliver Employee # 110194 who refused to give me his last number.
