Rescue City Reports & Reviews (1)

i applied to adopt a rescue dog that i found via petfinder.com from there i visited the rescue’s listed website rescuecity.nyc & filled out an online application. they required a non-refundable $10 deposit for them to consider the application, which i paid. i first received an email confirming my payment via petstablished.com. i then received a second email from [email protected] explaining that because of covid they don’t have a physical address & that all of their dogs are in foster homes. it said that due to exposure concerns they work with a driver to deliver the dog directly to my address (sight unseen). they said if that was ok i should reply to cassie collentine the “adoption program director.” i reluctantly agreed, to move the process along. so, next, they contacted me to do a 15 minute facetime home tour with someone i was told was a volunteer called callahan. i asked callahan if they deliver dogs as far away as i live (almost 200 miles) & she said that i would have to ask cassie to find out if there would be an additional fee (the adoption fee was going to be $450) after that they scheduled me for a 30 minute interview with cassie. she called me at the appointed time and asked more questions about my experience with dogs. at the end of that conversation they told me they would review all of my info & get back to me before the end of the following day. that email stated that i was not chosen to adopt the dog i had applied for due to lack of experience. that didn’t add up to me because although i haven’t had a dog of my own since i was a kid i have extensive experience dog sitting for weeks at a time & had provided references. i checked with those references & learned that they were never contacted. they did call my landlord though for permission to have a dog in my apartment which was granted. they told me that if i wanted to adopt a different dog from them i would have to apply for their foster to adopt program where i would have to foster 3 dogs at my own expense to gain more experience before i could then adopt a 4th dog which they would pull from a southern kill shelter especially for me. this, combined with everything before, finally made it clear that something not-legit was going on here. i looked up reviews for rescuecity.nyc & found hundreds of 5 star google reviews but i scrolled through & found a handful of 1 star reviews that told a similar story to mine. all the negative reviews had replies from rescuecity berating the reviewers & sharing personal info about them that they had provided on their applications. that is what prompted me to report them. hope it helps someone else not get duped like i did
