Phishing Scam - Homeland Security Impostor Reports & Reviews (1)

- Hyattsville, MD, USA • May 16, 2023

On 5/15/23 I was contacted by a scammer impersonating ICE Minnesota officer Kevin Malone at (612-843-8600) and (206-424-5085), saying he was with a Homeland Security Investigation. He walked me through the ICE.gov website and said I was accused of bank fraud and money laundering. He gave me the codes ice4678 and ICE704298645. He then said I am not authorized to answer any calls, I cannot involve any third party, I cannot transfer money, and I am guilty until proven otherwise. He said I can go with self-surrender and be arrested and in jail for 10-15 days and then transferred back to the detention center or pay an i352 immigration bond priviledge from arrest. After walking me through the ICE.gov website and asking me to read it, he then asked me to download AnyDesk and to remote-access my Android phone. Then he had me log into the bank so he could "verify" my transactions, as well as my line of credit. Then he said I owed $2950 toward the bond and that I had to go to the bank within 40 minutes, sending me an email from a gov address with an arrest warrant and an immigration bond form. Tracking my movements, he told me to connect my headphones so he could speak to me and to not talk with anyone about what's going on, to not even leave my car without his permission. I went to the nearest bank but they didn't have cash, so I went to another bank in Brookland and withdrew $3000 in 100s per the scammer's instructions, then he asked me to go to the CVS and buy pre-paid bond cards. They didn't have them so he told me to buy Target cards but two cards in one purchase. Finally, at the check-out counter I communicated with the man at the desk in writing and realized this was a scam, especially since the cards were not refundable. I turned off my phone, deleted any installed apps, and ignored his calls as well as the calls from the PG County Police (301-699- 2630), as they were all false. I went to the bank immediately and had my accounts closed and reopened and reset all my passwords. I also called the REAL police.
