paypal email stated that recurring charge for iphone 17 has been changed. i did not purchase phone. gave number to call. checked paypal account and no charges were made.

received an email stating a recurring payment had been reactivated by the merchant, and if i didn’t authorize it, i should call the given phone number to cancel. it was for a similar product that i do own, and the email looked legitimate from paypal, with links to the apple store and support. but it didn’t address me or even include my email, it was sent to “[email protected]” from paypal support, and listed totals in both JPY and USD in completely unequivalent amounts.

Received an email that looks like it was from Paypal notifying me that a reoccuring payment was made to my account in the amount of 1499.00 USD. It provided a phone number to call if the charge was not authorized. I did not click anything in my email, but instead visited the Paypal website and found that there were no unauthorized pending charges. The number listed in the email also did not match the phone number on the paypal website.

I have gotten 6 missed calls back to back from a number impersonating to be PayPal fraud prevention asking if I requested a number change and to press one. Thank god for iPhone scanning and screening phone calls and alerting me.
