My boyfriend and I both signed up for a ski lift ticket giveaway online through this company. They called us both to inform us we had both won “the daily prize” or an emergency preparedness package, and asked to set a time where they could come to our house and drop it off and show us how to use it. When they called me I could hear another phone representative in the background speaking to someone else at the same time about how they had also won the “daily giveaway.” I assume everyone who enters the grand prize drawing is called and told they too have won the “daily give away.” I thought that was weird but I set up a time on 1/9/23 for them to drop off my prize. The gentleman showed up with a presentation on fire saftey, and a first aid kit. He came into our home and handed us the first aid kit and said-this is your prize, and forced us to sit through a 2 hour fire saftey flip presentation. At the end of the presentation he presented his company’s fire/smoke alarm systems and asked us “if money wasn’t an issue, would you want this in your home?” Of course we said yes, as it was a state of the art fire/smoke alarm system. He then sprang the price on us and an astonishing $10,000.00 for 20 recommended units-based on our house size. We politely told him that we could not afford it and that we wanted to be done with the presentation and have him leave. He then stated that they offered financing, and instead of leaving, called his office to speak to their finance director. The finance director was rude and entirely insistent that we had to purchase this product, stating that our house was unprotected and she couldn’t let us not buy this as our house was not safe. She offered multiple financing options that we told her over and over again that we didn’t want. She said that with no money down we could pay $114 a month and have this product in our home today. We told her over and over again we did not want it. In attempt to get the gentleman, and the woman betraying us on the phone to leave, we disclosed that we were renting our property and would need to discuss with the landlord the options we had for making changes to the home. Even this did not stop the man and the woman on the phone. They kept on insisting l, and stated that a landlord had no right, and it was illegal for them to deny us from putting in saftey equipment like smoke/fire alarms in the home. The only way we got them to leave was to finally tell them that we absolutely must discuss with the land lord because of our lease terms. The finance lady said that they would set up a time, 2 days from when they visited (1/11/23) to come back out and finish our financing after we had spoken with the land lord. They absolutely would not take no for an answer and now they know where we live and have even toured our house- so they know where all our doors are (as part of them assessing how many fire alarms we would need) I am worried that they will return and may even attempt to enter or harm our property to prove a point about how “unsafe from a fire” our property is. I am reaching out to local law enforcement about the issue as well as the whole situation has me incredibly disturbed.
