Music Instrument Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

What seemed to be a legitimate school-district-wide email identified a woman whose husband (a music teacher) had died and who was giving away instruments for just the cost of shipping. I texted her, talked about the guitar she supposedly had, and agreed on the $*** shipping charge which I sent through Zelle to a different phone number (maybe from South Carolina) 864-875-2742. As soon as that money was sent, the person asked for $100 refundable (hah!) insurance payment. I refused, the person counter-offered to split 50/50, I said no, asked for a refund (again hah!) and that was the end of the communication. Someone (probably admin) removed the initial email as well as my note to the supposed sender. I'm guessing the entire system was hacked, but how and why the employee's name appeared as the sender on the initial email baffles me.
