Started with a text message stating "****** ******! I am Mr. James Murdock, HRO at MP Construction, LLC, and here is the company's official website: https://mpconstruct.com/. This is in reference to the remote position of CSR that you applied for with us on Indeed. I will be briefing you about work schedule and pay. Do you have a moment to chat?" I replied with a professional yes. They said it was 20-40 hours a week, and that I needed to report to them via Zoom, Slack, or Microsoft Teams each day by 9 a.m. They then went on to describe the work I would be doing. They said the pay is $28.75 per hour after training (training pay is $20.75 per hour). He then asked for my preferred email address to send the offer letter, W-4 (which I filled out with all personal information), and Code of Conduct to. He proceeded to ask whether I would like a weekly or bi-weekly payroll cycle. He explained the software programs I would use (Peachtree Complete, CYMA IV, MYOB Business essentials, Quickbooks Pro, and a "time tracker") saying they would cover all costs of programs. They said the funds for the software programs and working equipment will be provided by check or direct deposit. The funds would cover the cost of a laptop, printer, scanner, and time tracker. I received said check in mail, and they said they would provide me with the link for purchasing the equipment from eBay. I took the check into the bank teller, and she verified that it was most likely a scam. I told scammer that I didn't believe them and that the teller had voided check.
