“Dana” from “MedCare/Med Care?” called my elderly father (caller ID said Toll Free Number, didn’t list a business name) & started to leave a message on our landline’s answering machine saying his doctor who treats his diabetes (she had the right doctor’s name) ordered a new diabetic testing equipment for him. At this point Dad picked up and “Dana” said she needed to confirm Dad’s address. I don’t know if she would have tried to get him insurance/credit card information because I joined the conversation at that point stopping her and asking for her name, the company’s name and phone number (which matched the toll free number on the Caller ID and told her we needed to verify this with his doctor. I was suspicious because we had recently had his scheduled appointment and nothing was mentioned about new testing equipment and because he gets his equipment and supplies from a certain chain pharmacy (definitely NOT MedWise) immediately called Dad’s diabetes doctor, explained to them about the MedWise call and asked if they did order this. The doctor’s office replied they definitely did not and that was a scam as I suspected.
