My husband searched for rental car companies and a toll free number came up under Hertz and it said there was a special promotion. He gave me the number and I called it. "Rep" said his name was Max and he had a heavy accent. (Should have been my first clue) I asked him about renting an economy car and he said the regular price would be somewhere around $125 per day and said I could get a promotional price of 48.74 and $200 refundable deposit but I would need to reserve it with a GO2 bank card. So I went and purchased one and I registered it.."Max" was quite unfriendly when I told him I already registered it and said I needed to cash it out and get another GO2 card and wait til I called him back to register it so I could put in the promotion code. My son in law told me to hang up on him and block the number. I looked up car rental scams and I read that this almost exact same scam has been around since 2021.
