Humane Society for Tacoma Pierce County Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

A scammer posing as a representative of “The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County” corresponded with me about a job posting I applied to. After an in-depth interview and promise of a job position with their organization, they scammed me for money thereafter.

I first became aware of and applied to the fraudulent position on Indeed.com which, I believe, was posted sometime early December. The details of the posting on Indeed.com (which, I noted had 100+ applicants) was identical to this link still seen on karier.com - https://karier.co/job/ProofreaderCopy-Editor-The-Humane-Society-bBr

Some days passed, and around New Year’s Eve, I was contacted via text by someone claiming to be a representative of The Humane Society, going by the name Devon McCoy, asking if I was still interested in the fully remote position. I said yes, and they set me up with a remote interview with another representative going by Bob Zawilski, who is listed as the Senior Consultant of The Humane Society’s Wealth Advisory team as seen on their actual website; this Bob Zawilski was the one I mostly in-contact with. After an in-depth interview and some time passed again, they informed me that I was accepted to the job. They had me sign fictitious contracts and connect with other supposed staff via email, saying I would start training in the next few days.

Before then, however, they told me they wanted to set me up with new working materials including a macbook, iphone, a time-tracker, printer, and other various supplies and software who I would pay directly to a vendor. They sent me fictitious checks that managed to clear mobile banking scrutiny which they then wanted me to use to pay the various supposed vendors with. Because the checks were only partially cleared, they asked me if I can cover the cost of the supplies, installation, and shipping with my own money to help smooth the process toward my starting work day. They assured me I'd be reimbursed through, and so I covered the initial costs.

But then, they continually informed me that there were problems with the vendor purchase due to complications by the Covid pandemic and the holiday. They urged me for more money to help the process, and feeling threatened I'd lose the position, I complied. They had me pay different "vendors" through Apple Pay, Zelle, and CashApp, telling me they would be quick workarounds considering the circumstances.

After much money (total of $7000) had been passed on to them, I stopped contacting them briefly. I did not fully realize what happened and stopped contacting them entirely until I was contacted by Information Technology Manager, ***** *******, and Director of HR and Chief of Human Resources, **** ******, informing me of a fraudulent job posting. I closed my bank accounts and contacted the police the following day.

These were the numbers of the false Devon McCoy [(215) 710-1283] and Bob Zawilski [(208) 820-4686]. The one who sent me the false employment contract went by Julia Bonsell, whose email was: [email protected]

I also have the email to their false HR department and their several "vendors" still on hand. If you wish me to forward those, I can.
