Home Warranty Alliance Reports & Reviews (2)

Got a similar thing in the mail. The outside of the envelope uses the same font as the IRS with the year printed, and it references our mortgage lender so it looks important. The letter, on pink paper, describes such things as: urgent notice, response requested, final notice, a made-up "customer ID" number, a phone number to call them with operating hours but no physical address, a $200 voucher if you respond by the deadline, and types of "coverage" that they offer with no real information about it.

The outside of the envelope looks legit and I had it set aside because it looked like it was from my lender, especially because it's tax season. I know that my lender, which is a local company, would call me if anything ever came up. This is predatory phishing targeting people that don't know any better and want to get a deal on a fake service from a company that doesn't exist.

Predatory practices including words like “final notice” “right to revoke eligibility” and referring to an account that has never existed claiming that it’s about to lapse - all of which could easily be mistaken for a legitimate company making a legitimate threat to revoke “coverage” that never existed.
