Hi, I'm Berta Galofré and they did something similar to me in September 2019 but in Washington DC. They were much more organized and even if I did research, they finally managed to scam me, also considering that I was in Barcelona at that time so I couldn't visit the apartment. Three months after that, and having reported to the police (no one reached me out after the complaint...), a person contacted me via Facebook explaining the same thing you just said and saying that they were using my ID to scam more people. I'm planning to make another complaint to the police when they reopen.

I was first contacted by a person named Lauren Turner on the following facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ucberkeleyoffcampushousing/

She responded to my listing about needing a rental in the Oakland area. I proceeded to talk with her and Berta Galofre, the "property manager" as well as complete a lease application and work back and forth with Berta on the Lease Agreement. The lease agreement was surprisingly short and lacked many things that I though it should, and for clarity, I would ask Berta to revise this.

Shortly later, I found the listing for the home I was looking to rent online: *** This listing shows a completely different interior than they had showed me. Berta and Lauren also declined to show me the property in person (I'm in NYC) because it was under construction and they returned the keys recently. So, they showed me a video recording of the home instead.

They attempted to debunk my questions about the above online listing looking different than what they showed me, and we went back and forth on understanding if this is a two bedroom home or a two family home. They settled on saying that it is a 2 bed/1 bath with no current inhabitants. Well, shortly after that, I found the inhabitant on Whitepages. I gave her a phone call and immediately knew all of this was false. She was living in the home listed above, nothing like what Berta and Lauren showed me, and there was no upcoming renting or availability in the home for January.

This is the person currently living in the home, she told me she is fine with giving you her contact info:

The address they were trying to sell to me is:

Here is the landlord they told me I would be paying, along with his bank account info and paypal:

payment must be made no later than 2 calendar days after the commencement of the rental agreement.
