I opened the Hampton Inn Atlanta website and was looking at rooms. The website looked just like the Hampton Inn website and I had no indication that it was anything other than the actual hotel website. I booked my rooms and suddenly there are extra taxes and charges that I wasn't informed about and also a cancellation fee that is almost the entire amount of my stay. I called the Hampton Inn and was told there was no reservation. So I looked on my receipt and called that number (which looks like a valid legitimate number) and when I questioned the unbelievably high taxes/fees they proceeded to tell me they were a 3rd party company offering discounts for various hotels and they have to pay these hotels a portion of every booking. I told them I was never informed that I was dealing with a 3rd party platform and that I thought I was on the actual hotel website. They didn't respond and just kept saying they were a 3rd party etc. I said I called the hotel and was told I don't have a reservation and asked them to explain that; they couldn't. They just kept repeating they were a 3rd party company that offered discounts for various hotels, etc. I finally said I want a refund and she put me on hold and kept saying "let me check" and would continue to put me on hold several times and finally she says that I will have a cancellation fee that is $663 (my overall total was $877). I said that was a ridiculous amount especially since I have over a week before my actual check-in date. She kept putting me on hold to "check something" and comes back to tell me that is all she can do but it will take 5 to 7 business days for a refund. Needless to say, I had to call Hampton Inn myself to book my rooms and I did make them aware of these scammers (Hotel Vales). I am still waiting for a refund and I am now disputing these charges with my credit card company. Someone needs to find a way to stop these scammers from doing this !
