This company repeatedly called friends, & family members as well as eventually contacting my landlord claiming to have “signature required” mail to deliver to me. I returned their call and gave them the “tracking” info they provided and they asked for me to confirm my social security number. I refused and in turn THEY provided me with all but 4 numbers of my SSN. I still wouldn’t give them any other information and I was told that if I couldn’t confirm my identity then I obviously wasn’t the person I said I was and I was hung up on. After a week of MORE calls to my family I called them again and was eventually given an old address and was told that I was being served court paper work for an outstanding store credit card debt. I was told that they were working on behalf of the bank (Comenity Bank) and I was being sued for $4000 (on a $900 bill) from over 7 years ago (which I believed I had paid years ago. The store involved is no longer in business, but they claimed the bank itself was suing me.

I never gave them my social but I was informed they already had it on file. They claimed to not have my new address, however they gave it to my dad when whey called him and claimed they had “mail” for me.

I ended up agreeing to payments to clear this debt and to avoid litigation. After some more digging however I discovered that it was all a scam. Comenity bank has no accounts for me or even a record of an account for me. My credit reports also have no outstanding items from the store or the bank. I have reported the fraud to the bank and have cancelled my cards but a Google search shows that this company has been VERY active with this scam in the last several months. They harass everyone you know including employers and business contacts telling them there is a lawsuit pending against you.

I hope you’re able to shut them down.
