The scammer placed an ad on Craigslist for a short-term rental property available for $890 a month in Missoula near the university of Montana. The photos were stolen from an air bnb run at the listed address. The scammer impersonated the owner of the house and the air bnb and got us to sign a rental agreement a put down a security deposit on the place. The day we were set to move in, the scammer cut off contact with us and we could not reach them via text, email, or phone.

This report seems to be 100% accurate. There’s a property in Boulder, Colorado that is listed on Craigslist and I emailed the (im)poster about it. I received a text back from this # and immediately it seemed like a scam. I found the property owner’s # and called them to ask about the property and to inform them directly that someone is fraudulently using their name & property on Craigslist. After speaking directly with the actual property owner, I flagged the Craigslist posting as a scam.
