My daughter was contacted by someone who was replying to a prom dress for sale she had put on Craigslist for $290. They said they would purchase the dress and would we take a cashiers cheque. We said yes but when cheque came it was for $1350. they said they had inadvertently sent to much money but as they wanted the dress picked up by carrier, we were to send balance of money back via Western Union after taking out the payment for dress. We took cheque to bank and waited for it to clear before doing Western Union transfer. Once it had cleared and wired money sent tracking number via email and waited for the carrier or person to get in touch about dress. Needless to say there was no dress purchase just a fake cheque and $1012.50 out of pocket. Totally scammed. So I played along and asked what they wanted to do with dress as in the meantime it emerged they had a sob story about no longer needing it so i asked them what they wanted to do with remainder of $350 to which they said could i wire balance but keep $20 for my understanding!!! These people are ruthless and cunning and closed off to human emotion. They also ask you to remove ad as sold from craigslist. I contacted police, western union and bank no-one wants to know and there is absolutely no safe guard for the public in these scams. My daughter is traumatized by the whole experience.
