Delta Airlines Name Spoofing Reports & Reviews (1)
Victim Location 41011
Total money lost $2,000
Type of a scam Phishing
I contacted Delta Airlines to cancel a flight due to the COVID virus. They had all of my info and made the cancellation. They emailed a confirmation. They indicated agovernment-directed company policy to refund the money rather than put it into credit for future flights. When I questioned this, they said to let them call me back to confirm they were really Delta Airlines. They called me back on the recognized customer service number and also let me have personal info about myself as further proof they were legit.
In order to put the refund back to my credit card, they indicated they he'd to use a gift card to do this. I was instructed to purchase one at a local Walgreens and I did so because I really believed they were Delta agents. As it turned out after 4 purchased gift cards, I stopped any further conversation against their strong pleas to continue. I called BP VISA to cancel the card and I submitted a fraud investigation.
I also contacted Delta via another Frequent Flier Number that I was able to retrieve and one I wished I had found earier. They asked for a copy of the email confirming cancellation of the flight and said they would update me. I suspected data breach given all of the info the now questionable agent recited about me. I followed up again with Delta to alert them about what I think reminds a data breach in their system. All this took place on 7/3/20 and the following 3 weeks.
To date, Delta has not followed up. BP VISA disallowed the fraud claim because Walgreens and CVS produced receipts. I am trying now to contact Walgreens and CVS Customer Service to see if they can help.
Please so note this incident in your records.
