I received a text twice yesterday afternoon telling me was with CIBC card (********) and a PIN change has been requested. if you did not initiate this It then told me to click on please visit https://setupmanualcibc.com. I frantically was going through all my cards trying to see which one started with **** *x and did not have any. As I took a breath I used to be with CIBC but havent been for a long time. If I hadnt of frantically looked what cards started with 4506 and took a breath realizing I wasnt even with CIBC for a long time and a smart phone I may out of panic clicked on the link to stop the change at same time knowing that i should call them. Twice in an afternoon I got same exact text but from a different nunber 18194438451.

The phone call was received from CIBC - the called ID showed the number calling was a verified CIBC phone number with a green check mark. The caller identified himself as a CIBC customer service representative. He wanted to verify charges on a debit card that appeared to be fraudulent. A verification code was sent to the victim's mobile phone from the CIBC push notification number ******, which had been used by CIBC previously. The victim verified that the charges were fraudulent. Shortly after the call an e-transfer of $1,100 was made from the victim's CIBC bank account without their knowledge. A few minutes later this fraudulent activity was reported by the victim to the CIBC customer service and fraud centre. The victim was told that there was nothing that could be done to reverse this theft since it was an e-transfer.

The fraud was committed on a youth account and the victim of this theft was 16 years old. (This age range is not included in this form)
