I received a call from someone called Carson Simons, stating they were from the CollegeBoard and they were reaching out because my child is registered for an upcoming SAT. The person provided my child's name, and said that they had indicated interest in preparatory materials when they registered for the exam. They stated that the materials would include a flash drive, for which there was a $250 deposit, and that included in the package would be directions for how to return the flash drive (and recover the deposit) when my child was through using them. They asked for a card number to hold the deposit, which I provided. Initially, the card was not accepted and "Carson" stated that this occurs often with Chase cards and that I would be getting a text message momentarily to allow the transaction to process. Once it processed, "Carson" left me with a phone number to call in case of any concerns: 1-888-496-2626. Approximately 2 weeks later, a package arrived from "Brightmind Learning" in Upland, CA. The package included a one-page how-to guide for the two included CD-ROM discs as well as a flash drive, labeled "USB Installation Drive." The CD-ROM discs are labeled as being from "College Prep Foundation." I expected the materials to state that they were from Collegeboard, and became suspicious of the flash drive and what information it might capture from our computer. I called the phone number provided, but it was a phone sex line. I have reported this incident to Chase and disputed the charge.
